Stinging Nettles
Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a very common plant which has a flavor similar to spinach when cooked, and is rich in vitamins A, C, D, iron, potassium, manganese, and calcium.
Stinging nettle also makes a great base ingredient for both wines and ales.
However few people know of its great culinary and alcoholic potential because it is difficult to pick nettles without getting painfully stung by the needs like hairs that inject a cocktail of irritants into any exposed skin unlucky enough to brush past it.
Thankfully most of us learn that broad leaf Dock (Rumex obtusifolia) (which always seem to grow close to nettles) has a strong soothing effect when the leaves are rubbed vigourously onto skin that has been stung by nettles.
