England's Top 10 Cities
1. London
The nation's capital and one of the World's greatest cities. London has to top the list. The west end attracts most tourists, but this massive city has many fascinating little corners to explore. Docklands, Greenwhich and Camden are all particularly interesting.
2. Birmingham
A huge city about 100 miles north of London. Birmingham was the epicentre of the whirlwind that was the industrial revolution of the nineteenth century.
3. Manchester
Thriving, vibrant, self confident and exciting. Manchester is a great fun city. Loads to see and do.
4. Bath
A beautiful ciry of honey coloured stone which seems at first glance to have changed little since its heyday in the late 1700s. Visit Bath and see for yourself why it became a byword for charm elegance and entertainment.
5. Sheffield
A northern city packed with charm. Sheffield steel made the city rich, and neither the sheffield steel nor the city have tarnished over the years. Class all the way.
6. Liverpool
Legendary northern port city home to poetry, music, art and a culture quite distinct from London. Liverpool is proud to have its own identity and fiercely guarded about losing it. The result is a fascinating place to visit for anyone who wants a more three dimensional view of England.
7. Bristol
Another great port, this time on the south west coast. Bristol is small but vibrant with a real range of cultures combining (and sometimes clashing) to create new experiences for visitors. Bristol is a sea port first and foremost, with a maritime heritage dating back centuries.
8. Leicester
A diverse city that hasn't forgotten its roots. All life is here. Foods from around the world, thriving small businesses and a sense that people are just getting on with life in Leicester. Raucous nightlife too.
9. Nottingham
There is a great mix of old and new in Nottingham. Yes, this is the home of Robin Hood and the Trip to Jerusalem pub is almost as old as the legendary freedom fighter himself, but there is also a new excitement to the city. Lots of rennovation has finally planed the rough edges of the city centre away to reveal a beautiful place to live, study and visit.
10. Hull
East coast port with large student population and great literary heritage. The docks are industrial and the city seems to look toward land rather than the sea. However due to geography, Hull has always been rather isolated from the rest of the country and so has developed a singular and unique style of its own. Down to earth, straight talking but above all friendly people abound.
