Best Restaurant in England
Britain's best restaurants are not all to be found in London. Some of the best chefs are creating great dishes in little villages and towns in places most visitors have never even heard of.
For example, the restaurant that has consistently been voted as the very best in the country is "The Fat Duck". This three michelin starred eaterie is Chef Heston Blumenthal's world famous gastronomic temple of flavour, but is actually 20 miles west of London in the tiny village of Bray, a couple of minutes upstream from Windsor Castle. The other restaurant in Bray is the Waterside Inn, Michel Roux's legendary restaurant that has held Michelin stars for longer than any other. Together they make this 16th Century village on the Thames England's greatest foodie destination. Our tip is to stay at one of the fine Windsor hotels and take a taxi to and from Bray.
If you do insist on staying in London, then Le Gavroche on Upper Brook Street is one of London's finest and again is a Michel Roux Junior venture.
The River Cafe, Thames Wharf is another legendary eaterie where a stong comittment to quality ingredients and freshness has made it the favourite place to eat of many great chefs themselves.
If you are in the west of England, book a table at Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon. There is no finer afternoon to be had than a walk in the wonderful Dartmoor national park followed by dinner of the delicious creations from award winning Chef Michael Caines MBE.
England is now home to many people from the Indian sub continent and Curry has apparently overtaken Fish and chips as the nations favourite dish. Therefore, why not try a really good curry at Ashiana restaurant in Newark, Nottinghamshire. The food here is not your standard take-away fare, but a sensuous delight of gourmet cooking that will appeal to those with refined and adventurous palettes.
