Canal Barge Holidays
A great way of exploring England's quieter, less touristy towns and villages is to explore the waterways of England on a barge holiday.
Canal barges are a fantastic mode of transport for exploring rural England at a more relaxed and gentle pace. The canals wind through the landscape all over the country, allowing you to head in almost any direction. You can master the art of navigation as you travel on boats which will take you through tunnels, across aqueducts, under bridges and through locks aplenty. Although there is always something to do, the real pleasure is derived from finding you have plenty of time to simply admire the views as you cruise.
England is beautiful and a narrowboat provides a moving window on the world. In the evenings you will moor up alongside fellow bargees and generally spend the evenings at rustic canal-side pubs or out in the open, enjoying al fresco meals.
Barge holidays are a fantastic choice for those who really want to unwind and to enjoy the experience of being close to the vast array of nature that flourishes in our lush green landscape. Canals are home to wildlife such as dragonflies, water voles and kingfishers. By taking a canal barge holiday you have a unique chance to take in the wildlife, landscape and culture of this country at your own pace. If you are really lucky you might get to see rarer creatures such as otters.
All in all we cannot recommend barge holidays enough. They are the tops.
