10 Best Views In England

These are the 10 best views in England that we know of. There may well be better ones, but these are our personal favourite views.

Waterloo Sunset

The Kinks sang about 'Waterloo Sunsets' and it was probably the only decent song written about London in the last century. The best thing is that you can experience those sunsets yourself and they really are worth the walk to the south side of the river. Walk across Waterloo on the downstream side and about three quarters of the way across the whole vista of London is spread before you. The sun will set behind you, bathing the city in a wonderful glow.

London from the Hill

primrose hill

Head up to Primrose Hill, north of Regent's Park and sit with a blanket on a sunny afternoon, and enjoy the finest panorama of London. It is a real delight to do this and then head into town for an evening of fun and adventure.

Tintagel

Down on the north coast of Cornwall is the wonderful island fortress of Tintagel. Morning sun is when the view from the mainland is at its best. Enjoy the view from around to the north where you can also see the caves down on the beach. There is so much to see and do in the area, but everyone agrees that Tintagel is not to be missed.

Box Hill

Gentle rolling woodland and chalk downland in Tadworth, Surrey. The Box hill countryside park is owned by the National Trust who look after it and keep the views looking amazing.

Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

bamburgh castle

Iconic seaside castle ruin has a silhouette that is heartstoppingly beautiful.

Hadrian's Wall

The wall around the Housesteads Fort area in Northumberland is amazingly picturesque. It has stood for getting close to two millenia and so you will have to forgive the odd bit of crumbling mortar.

The Royal Crescent, Bath

royal crescent, Bath

Bath is a stunning city in England's South East and this is the best street of the lot. I used to think of 'views' as essentially rural, but urban environments can be equally memorable. The crescent is really first class and deserves its status as World Heritage Site.

Catbells, Cumbria

catbells

The lake district is full of amazing views, and perhaps none is finer than the views from the top of Catbells. It is an easy climb from Keswick village so many people get to enjoy it, though that doesn't make it any less worth a visit. Looking west you get a marvelous vista onto Derwent water. Turn the other way and Causey Pike and Newlands Valley are equally astounding as the picture shows. Striding edge nearby is thought by many to equal Catbells for the view, although there are at least a thousand other spots in the Lake District where the 'best view' is supposed to be had. It really is a beautiful part of the world.

Hay Tor, Dartmoor

haytor

The view from the rock at the top of Hay Tor is in my opinion the finest view in Devon.

Malvern Hills

malvern hills

The view north from the 'british camp' area is of a string of lovely hills, snaking through the landscape like the scaly back of some sleeping dragon.

You will need somewhere to stay, so here is a link to Breaks on Budgets who offer excellent deals on UK hotels.

Hope you enjoy the views as much as we have.
