Horseracing

The 'sport of kings' is still hugely popular in England.

Many of the UK’s racecourses have been transformed in recent years and are delivering family-friendly race days attracting a young crowd of racegoers. Most racedays are like mini-festivals, with music, dancing, themed events and other attractions to augment the horses.

Many of these newcomers find the terminology of the racetrack confusing.

References to accumulators, furlongs, hands, monkeys and tic-tac make horseracing seem a little odd to some visitors.

However, it does seem that everyone 'gets' the thrill of standing close to the course and seeing 10 thoroughbred horses thundering past.

There are some major events in the horseracing calendar that attract a lot more attention than others. These include the Grand National at Aintree racecource, The Derby at Epsom, Glorious Goodwood and above all, Royal Ascot.

Attending any one of these is a real tret not to be missed.
