Her reign is infamous due to the many people burned for their religious beliefs. During the reign of 'Bloody Mary' In all 227 men and 56 women were burned at the stake for herecy while she was queen.
Two famous 'martyrs' Nicholas Ridley and Hugh Latimer were burnt outside Balliol College, Oxford October 16th 1555
Thomas Cranmer, who had been Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of Henry VIII and Edward VI was burned nearby the following year.
