Kings and Queens

Henry VIII

King of England 1491AD-1547AD

Henry is one of England's most famous kings. He married six times and established the church of England when Catholic doctrine refused him permission to divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon, and marry Anne Boleyn.

After he tired of Anne, he had her executed and married Jane Seymour. Jane bore him a son but died in childbirth.

Henry was talked into a political marriage with Anne of Cleves but found her not to be to his liking and he divorced her.

His fifth wife was Catherine Howard who conducted a number of indiscreet sexual liaisons with men other than her (by now old and fat) husband. She was stripped of her title as queen in November 1541 and executed at the Tower of London on February 13th the following year.

Henry's final wife, Catherine Parr helped Henry to reconcile with his two daughters from his first two marriages Mary and Elizabeth. Both would later become queens in their own right.
