Kings and Queens

Henry I

King of England 1100AD-1135AD

Younger brother of William Rufus

He married Edith, daughter of King Malcolm III of Scotland; a British noblewoman (as opposed to a Norman) which helped normalise anglo-norman relations. She died and he later remarried Adeliza of Leuven. This was the first ever royal marriage held at Windsor Castle which was to become home for the royal family for the next thousand years.

Henry had two legitimate children but is also known to have fathered up to 25 illegitimate offspring.

He famously dies from "a surfeit of lampreys" (he ate too many eels).
