Blandford Forum

Despite Blandford Forum's apparently Roman name, Blandford began in Anglo-Saxon times as a ford of the river over the river blay. By the 13th century it had become an important market town and the suffix Forum, meaning market, was added in the sixteenth century.

In 1731 much of the town was destroyed in a fire and subsequently rebuilt by a couple of Bastards (John Bastard and William Bastard)in the Georgian manner.
