Norfolk

map of Norfolk

Norfolk is flat. The entire county is low-lying fenland, criss-crossed by canals and rivers. Until recent times Norfolk was very much isolated from the transport links with the rest of England, allowing a unique culture to survive and thrive.

before electricity, wind was the main source of power in the county, with 300 widmills dotting the landscape. Many survive as visitor attractions, such as those at Bircham, Denver and Stow.
