Chiswick was once home to writers and artists, but rising house prices and rampant consumerism have destroyed its bohemian past. The statue of Hogarth is a greater reminded of his talent than the permanent traffic Jam on the Hogarth roundabout.

The Battle of Turnham Green

In November 1642 Parliamentary soldiers led by the Earl of Essex camped on Turnham Green. On the 12th day of the month they were attacked by Royalists and a bloody battle raged until the following day, when the bodies of almost 1000 men were cleared from the Green.
