Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle are an official World Heritage Site.

County Durham is also famous for its natural environments, particularly the spectacular Teesdale and Weardale with their waterfalls, river valleys and wildflower meadows. The Dales are home to one of Europe’s key colonies of wading birds.
