Cornwall

Cornwall was the last part of Britain to succumb to the Saxon invasion in 838 AD. Their own Celtic identity was less easily subsumed and the Cornish managed to retain their independent identity for a very long time. The Cornish language was only superceeded by English the 16th century and didn't die out until the late nineteenth century. Much of the modern Cornish accent and speech is based on Celtic patterns long remembered.
The tourism industry is thriving in a county blessed by hundreds of miles of beautiful coastline. The atlantic swells also make Cornwall a mecca for surfers.
