Congleton

Congleton has a decent Rugby team and a nice river (the River Dane) flowing through town. In the middle ages Congleton became an important lace making centre.

Later, Congleton was nicknamed 'Beartown' following a shameful incident in the 1620s when the townsfolk used the money in their bible fund to pay for a bear to be used for the 'sport' of bear bating.
