Reading I moved to Reading a few years ago to take up a job opportunity in the nearby Maidenhead. Although Maidenhead is only two junctions from Reading on the M4, it takes about an hour or so everytime for a 10 minute journey due to the traffic! However, in saying that at least you are close to the motorway and Reading is commutable to London daily or great for a tourist visit every so often. If your a footie fan, then the Madjeski Stadium is pretty impressive although this causes a bit of chaos on Saturdays with the traffic if Reading are playing at home. Great shopping in the Oracle, has all the usual high street stores but no real 'unique or quirky' shops that i tend to like mulling around in. The Oracle Shopping Centre sits over the canal and at night the pubs and restaurants come alive there which makes it a really nice place to pop down for a cocktail or two. There is much more to Reading though than just shopping and cocktails, the canal network takes you to some really interesting and historical places like Sonning, absolutely stunning in the Summer! But again if your thinking 'is there a pub or restaurant on the way', there is one i can strongly recommend - The Bel & Dragon, situated right on the canal with a great barge where you can sit outside having your dinner. And one big event not to be missed is the Reading Festival, aptly named as it is held in the centre of Reading. Great weekend for everyone and probably puts Reading clearly on the Map! Tracie Loach |

Reading Gaol You can see the infamous Gaol in the town centre to this day. A place of homage for fans of Oscar Wilde. Chris |
